While all activities we’ve included are kid-friendly, the daily itineraries are for people of all ages. We’ve traveled with grandparents and with seasoned hikers. We’ve detailed each trail with the distance, skill level, and time to allow.

Acadia National Park is located along the coast of Maine, about 160 miles from Portland and about 50 miles from Bangor. The town of Bar Harbor, Maine shares a border with the park, making it a popular home base for park visitors.

The park is open year-round, however, if you’re visiting during the winter, be sure to check out the park’s Visiting in Winter page.

The park stretches across 48,000 acres.

The park attracts close to 4 million people per year. Summertime is the peak visiting season of the year, from June to September.

You can catch direct flights from Boston’s Logan Airport to Hancock County Airport, which is just 10 miles from the park. For national or international flights, you’ll want to land at Bangor International Airport, which is about 1 hour from the park. Car rentals are available at both airports.

My worst fear? Spending a ton of time and money heading to one of our “bucket list” destinations… only to find out afterward that we missed that special hike, that must-see view, that amazing pull off.

With the CFA guides, I don’t worry. In fact… I don’t even have to pre-plan. The hikes they suggested were magnificent… plus restaurants, maps, and the step-by-step guidance… worth every penny (and then some!)
